Another glorious sunny day in Norwich! Family and I wandered around enjoying the free music in Chaplefield Gardens and the Castle Gardens. We stopped by the peace fair in The Forum to stock up on CND badges and moral! Still recovering from the graduations - so thought I’d inflict one of the photos on you!
We’ve been munching BBQ in the garden and are just about to wander into town to see the fireworks. Summer in Norwich is pretty good fun if you like free pre-organised events!

I’ve just come back from watching The Rocky Horror Show at Cow Tower. It’s always nice when the city council put something on for free - although the bizarre police presence was a little unnerving! It was fascinating but I wasn’t sure which I was supposed to watch: the show or the audience and ended up oscillating between the two.
It’s been another long day with yet another graduation (teaching qualification this time) full of pseudo pomp and ceremony. I don’t like this dead weight of tradition but fancy dress is always fun.
The anti-highlight was probably when the Vice Chancellor was given an honour degree of some kind and his ‘contribution to the university’ praised. There was oddly enough no mention of his failure to support the university lecturers in their attempt to secure a living wage, or his decision to close the schools of Drama and that of Languages, Linguistics and Translation Studies because they weren’t finically viable. I’m pretty sure they didn’t mention his attempts to make the university less democratic and less transparent in its dealings either.

It’s ridiculous late but I’m still getting over-excited by html and so sleep is out of the question.
Later today I’ll be jugging between graduating from UEA with an MA (yes gown and all!), picking my dad up from the airport, getting a long needed haircut, and dropping off free shop stuff at my friendly local housing co-op. Probably all in the wrong order. So some sleep would have been good, but oh well what can you do. Luckily I have the co-op car to do all these things in. It’s small, white and a wee bit rusty but generally seems to work.
My good friend Matthew and his computer-loving friend have just left sunny Norwich to go to NY. They are flying with Air India, so I’m hoping they make it across the ocean. Eating curry when you fly sounds pretty good but the dying horribly in a crash doesn’t seem to be so much of a perk.

I’m feeling more computer literate than ever before! My website is still in the early stages of creation but feel free to check it out. No laughing please!
How is this all possible? The power of O’Reilly publishing and my good friend Matthew!
I’ll be putting up some travel photos when I whiz round Europe later on this summer - so hopefully the website will be more interesting soon!

I had a simply wonderful day yesterday sailing on Pitsford Reservoir. Family members have donated 2 lazer picos to the sailing club in memory of my Great Uncle Bill and we had a lovely day sailing them up and down. It was great to sail again as I haven’t sailed for 7 or so years and the exhilaration you experience when the wind catches your sail and sends you skimming across the water is fantastic!
Received an email from an old uni friend. He’s in the middle of trying to help out in the Burma situation. See his website for more details:

The situation in Burma is very bad - basically nasty military dictatorship that spends nearly half of the regime’s budget on the military and only two to four percent on health (figures from UNICEF). Slave labour, bad big business investing there, oppression and more. See the below link for more information:

There’s no stopping this blogging thing now! Just received a lovely link from Paul Caplan. For more details and to see why I started a blog visit:

Have spent almost an entire day being inspired by tech stuff and generally motivated to learn everything I can about computers! Why? I guess it’s because I want to understand the world I live in and use that knowledge to make it a better place.

How exciting! Inspired by a ‘new media’ seminar I have decided to take the plunge into the world of bloggerdom. Expect laughter, tears and inspiration!
