All The Shah’s Men

Posted by Suzi on 27 Oct 2006 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

I’m reading a very comprehensive and interesting history of British involvement in Iran: All The Shah’s Men by Stephen Kinzer. If you don’t know much about Iran it’s well worth a read!

I’m enjoying hanging out in Hammersmith - I’ve done very little since I’ve been back from Germany except read but it’s lovely to have the chance to catch up on some reading. Viva holidays!!

Now in Nuremberg

Writing from Nuremberg where I am camped out at my brother´s flat. He is here studying German for a few month and is now really good! We arrived Saturday morning after a night of little sleep and a tiring journey! We managed to get through security but only after they´d stripped us of toothpaste, shower gel and shampoo - all dangerous items! We were pulled to one side after the metal detectors and scanning machines and after the obligatory and overly polite but random question of ´may I search your bag please´ they pulled out not a scary and intimidating weapon but a jar of Marmite! It´s a sad world where I can´t take my little brother a small jar of Marmite from England :(

We´ve visited Rothenburg since arriving and enjoyed it´s picturesque and sweet cobbled streets and medieval fortifications. We tried the local delicacy of cooked pastry balls called snowballs and saw the altar that is supposed to contain a drop of Christ´s blood!

We return to England tomorrow after eating a few more wursts and sauerkraut!!

A birthday song

Back in sunny Norwich. Just spent a lovely day in Ipswich learnin’ stuff and a surprisingly pleasant evening working. All this work has meant that I didn’t get the chance to wish Anne happy birthday so here it is Anne… Happy Birthday to you (repeat several times, getting gradually louder and more confident) Happy Birthday dear Anne, Happy Birthday to you!! (Sounds of cheers and whoops of joy etc)

The weekend passed so quickly that as I noted I had no time for dreams! However it was so nice hanging out with Keyvan, Rumi and all the budding photographers on the course that the lack of sleep was made worthwhile!

No time for dreams

Will be winging my way back to Norwich in a bit after a weekend of non-stop excitement! Been on an interesting tour of the Bush House (the BBC) many thanks to Ping! Can’t believe they only digitalized their radio last year and up until then the poor chaps were having to edit tape with a razor and their good judgment!!

It was the second and last day of my photography course today - I managed to get a couple of good shots!

Probably important

I’m watching a black comedy called Dr Strangelove or How We Learnt To Stop Worrying And Love The Bomb. It’s probably a very important film.

Still working

Work has taken over my life and blogging has drifted into the background. While I’m dreaming of getting fit cycling the many miles to work everyday, Keyvan has been creating! Check out his latest masterpiece at www.keyvan.net/gallery

After searching the Cathedrals of Norwich for many fruitless hours for the Art Not Oil exhibition, we gave up and emailed the organisers. This vanished art turned out to be missing due to the Cathedral cancelling and not some elaborately staged art theft. If you want to see them then they will be in Northampton in Oct/Nov, Aberdeen Dec/Jan and Bristol March 2007.
