Something to watch

Keyvan has just posted up an interview between Chomsky and Andrew Marr. It’s old but relevant and brilliant. You must watch it when you have a 30 spare minutes!

Computery

Posted by Suzi on 22 Nov 2006 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

I’ve feeling all computery at the moment. I’ve been playing with my website and getting all enthusiastic about html again! Also gone as far as to the change the look of this blog! Keyvan has also been webbing it up with his anti-ads campaign. Check out his website for info on how to download ad removing code! I’ve got a couple more days of working this week then it’s off to London for the weekend. I went to Mundesley yesterday and looked at the sea – it was rather refreshing to get out of the city and to the coast but it felt like a long old drive. The sky was amazing; I drank hot chocolate on the beach and wished I’d remembered the camera. Beaches are always so deserted in winter, which is kind of odd because they’re nice all year round.
I’ve just discovered this amazing art programme so might have to go and play with it. I watched Big Blue earlier so I need cheering up!

Over far too quickly

The weekend was lovely but over far too quickly. Lots of technical things were attended to such as the change of ISP and wireless router and the cleaning of the house. On Thursday night we went to see the Xmas lights being switched on in the centre. They surprised us with fireworks. It was all rather good - the fireworks that is - not the fake looking Santa’s, token dog collar wearer, or the shameless personal plugs from the ‘hosts’ of the evening who spent a disproportionate amount of time advertising their things and selves.
I watched the rest of the very good V for Vendetta. Good film. We had lovely friends Adam, Rich and Susie over for dinner, wine drinking and Jenga playing on Saturday. The rest of the weekend was spent stopping Keyvan from writing his essay. So I think he should know that I do feel a little guilty about that as he sits up tonight frantically writing it.
After a day at work I have another day off tomorrow! This part time work is perfect  I might try and go for a walk in some woods or on the beach tomorrow. Any ideas of where is nice to go?

Love and tears

Reading Erich Fromm’s The Art of Loving, I think this is his most famous work and it is a good read. Fromm is one of the most perceptive and interesting writers that I have ever read and I would recommend anyone who is interested in psychology and social philosophy to read his work.
After a late start to the day I have finally got up, eaten breakfast and done some preparation for work tomorrow. I have to get fairly early in order to tube it across London to catch my train home. I have so far failed to see much of London. I did spend a happy hour wandering around Chiswick in the premature dark yesterday and managed to get myself a passable coat from Oxfam! How would I live without charity shops! Have you seen the price of clothes? And to think they are all pretty much made in sweat shops so why they are so expensive is purely testament to human greed! Check out Labour Behind The Label or the No Sweat websites if you want to join in the fight against sweat shop conditions.

Ensconced in London

Posted by Suzi on 11 Nov 2006 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

I’m happily ensconced in London, tucked up in bed with a book on syntax! I think we’re half planning to go to Portobello Market later and then I want to convince Keyvan to do something crazy like go to the Planetarium! He’s busy wandering round his house with a alarm system fitting man planning panic buttons and the like and the moment. The house got broken into last weekend and poor K had one of his camera lens stolen not to mention his laptop and other such stealables. I think they must have been a little disappointed that the house wasn’t crammed full of treasures. Horrible to get broken into and feel insecure in your own house, I think an alarm should deter future disturbers of the Hammersmith peace.

Might have a break in the old education thing and watch a bit of Ali G. So much funnier than Borat!!

For the weekend

Posted by Suzi on 09 Nov 2006 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

Been re-watching A Fish Called Wanda, I love that film! Funny and very entertaining!

After a week of working I’m planning to go to London for the weekend for a bit of culture and Iranian cooking!

Spent last night with my lovely friends Will and Ella drinking wine and talking about politics, life and people. I am now the proud possessor of a T-Shirt from Ella’s t-shirt emporium. It’s very funny… it has a picture of Jesus walking into a pound stretcher under the caption ‘Jesus Saves’. Ella’s in the middle of making a website so when it’s finished I’ll link to it so you can see the fun for yourself.

Bzangy Groink

Just been reading a good and coherent rant. It’s worth checking out:

Busy looking for a good ISP… so if anyone has any recommendations let me know.

The weekend passed quickly. Keyvan and I failed to go to the climate change march in London. We watched the awful Borat film, wouldn’t recommend it but then humour is very subjective so it might be worth giving it a go. Went for a walk by the river and was saddened that out in ‘nature’ the wildlife signs had been sprayed with graffiti. Played poo sticks with Keyvan – should do that more often!

The inconvenience of truth

Posted by Suzi on 02 Nov 2006 | Tagged as: Uncategorized

Last night I braved the cold and the potential rain to cycle the 10 minutes into town to see An Inconvenient Truth at Cinema City with my house mate and Joe B. I thought it was really good! There were of course drawbacks (such as the overly rich symbolism that oozes out in the shots of Al Gore in a dark tunnel walking towards the light!) But all in all the film made climate change understandable with lots of pictures and colourful charts. It was aimed at an audience that needed convincing that climate change was happening but it gave a lot of useful information and I wanted to clap at the end but was constrained by convention and the people sitting next to me. Am enjoying a rare day off work :) Reading Dale Carnegie’s How to Stop Worrying and Start Living - a well read and time tested classic!

Outside looks quite nice… I might venture out!
