I’ve just remembered TheyWorkForYou.com. It’s great: you can look up how MP’s voted, what expenses they got, etc. It lets you know through Hansard what is being discussed in the Parliament - not much at the moment because they are all on holiday! It also emails you whenever your MP speaks - if you want! What a service! And all for free! It would be lovely if democracy worked for us - but that is something we still need to argue for.

This morning I woke up at a sensible time so that I could visit the Serpentine Gallery in Kensington Garden with Keyvan and Mariam. The weather was perfect for walking today – lovely sunny patches which made the blossoms look even lovelier. Spring has indeed sprung.
The Serpentine Gallery is in a 1930s tea room in the centre of Kensington Gardens and is certainly worth a visit if you are in that area of town, not least because it is free. The contemporary art housed there wasn’t really to my taste but the building was pleasant enough and certainly worth a wander round. I was disappointed to find that the oranges nestled in the orange trees where actually held on by wire and not growing naturally. I wasn’t sure whether they were supposed to be art or whether it was just bad interior design.
Afterwards we had a look at the Royal Albert Memorial – a very odd guilt covered affair and then the outside of the Albert Hall – a very satisfyingly round building, before wandering to Kensington Square – one of the oldest squares in London. After some brief refreshments at the Muffin Man – a very sweet little tea room just off the high street we wandered back to Hammersmith. The walk back isn’t pretty but it does pass many Iranian shops and restaurants which is interesting.

I climbed Mount Snowdon at the weekend! It was surprisingly easy – well in an incredibly difficult way. I still can’t believe that I got to the top. It was wet and windy at the top yet bizarrely my fellow climbers stood about taking photos! On the torturous way down my seemingly sturdy walking boots broke and so with both soles flapping wildly like giant clown shoes I made my way down the mountain. If climbing Snowdon, remember to pack warm dry clothes to put on at the end of the journey and don’t finish a climb off with a 3 hour car ride, soaking wet with one too many people in the backseat of the car!
The weekend was amazing though; Snowdon included. It is so wonderful to be in beautiful mountainous surroundings breathing in clean air. I would have liked to have stayed. You can see some of the photos here.

I visited Basingstoke on Saturday. It should be called Thatchergrad (see extensive internet discussion for this via your favorite search engine). We didn’t see any people before we discovered the huge shopping centre. They were all inside wandering backwards and forwards clutching plastic bags. It was truly depressing.
Saw the Wallace Collection briefly today. If you’re ever on Oxford Street and wishing you weren’t there then pop down to Manchester Square and visit Hertford House. It’s free so if you don’t like the art and amour you can leave without a qualm.
