Waxing lyrical about Bath

Posted by Suzi on 27 Apr 2007 | Tagged as: Blog post, Travelling

After a gray start to the day the sun seems to have appeared and warmed the place up a bit. I’m back in Norwich, trying to get on with preparing for my CELTA course and working on my OU psychology work. I joyfully received another parcel of books from the OU this morning – getting books through the post really is the best thing in the world!

I have had a couple of nice days since returning from Bath catching up with friends and thinking about doing housework. Bath was lovely. I didn’t want to leave. It’s wonderful wandering around looking at the old buildings and taking advantage of all the free things.

If you go to Bath you can’t miss looking at the fine architecture but make sure you go and see the Royal Crescent and the Circus. Jane Austen fans should ensure they go to the Assembly Rooms, which are free to go in, as is the Abbey Church and the crypt. I was also delighted to find that there are free walking tours of Bath. Meet outside the Pump Room at 2pm on a weekday to go on one. If you want to go at a different time, then have a look on the website to see other times.

The Pump Room is amazing as well, for the price of a cup of tea (as the song says) you can listen to musicians playing wonderful classic music before strolling to the window to look down on the old baths – some of the remains are Roman and some medieval. I have to confess I balked at the £10 fee to get in to see the Roman Baths but when I’m rich I fully intend to go back.

Near the pump room is a fudge shop that is willing to give out free samples so if you are waiting for the walk you could nip in to get a taste.

It’s not all milk and honey however, as there are a lot of cars in the city centre and not enough bikes. The library isn’t that great, not least because the use of the computers is not gratis but there is a internet café near the bus and train stations (conveniently located next to each other) that lets you check your emails for 2 minutes for free.

Well enough about Bath (for now), I’m off to do some work and enjoy the sunshine.

I’ve just been updating my website. I really must get back to learning html as the website still looks very bad. Luckily it’s got useful info on it (in my opinion at any rate!)

I haven’t done much of interest recently as I have been very busy with my Open University psychology course - I’ve hardly had time to congratulate myself on getting the first essay in before another is due!

In between working hard I have discovered a wonderful website where you can display your art work for free.

Wandering London

Posted by Suzi on 05 Apr 2007 | Tagged as: Wanderings

The weekend was glorious with wonderful sunshine. I wandered around Kensington on Sunday and Monday looking at all the beautiful old houses. Kensington Gardens is an amazing space. It’s just so big and full of people when it is sunny. I wandered round with Keyvan’s camera snapping trees, flowers, and occasionally, surreptitiously, people! I’m becoming addicted to Andrew Duncan’s ‘Favourite walks round London’. Recommended buy. Originally recommended by Ellie – so thanks for that Ellie!

Keyvan and I spent Monday exploring Holland Park (much cosier than Kensington Gardens) and the quaint little Kensington streets and squares. It’s really lovely. I spent the whole time wanting to live there and then remembering that you practically have to be millionaire to do that.

I’m back in Norwich now doing more mundane things but it’s off to London and then Bath again soon for more adventures!
