K has been working hard to produce a great new application for all those Kindle lovers out there. Kindle It allows you to send articles to your Kindle straight from the web. I’m finding it really useful and possibly for the first time ever I’m actually reading a lot of articles from the web. Coupled with the fact that Amazon already lets you email PDF documents to your Kindle I feel like I’m getting a chance to read all the things I previously had to print out or read on the computer screen. Feels like the future has inched closer!

After days of rain and no waterproof coat due to an unfortunate incident with someone who needed one and my bike panniers, the sun has finally come out for our writer’s group today.
Our last meeting at CB2 was very successful in terms of people and amazing literature and today we’re going to try the Arts Picture House in search of the perfect quiet venue in Cambridge.

I’ve been doing a tiny amount of writing over the last month as work has been consuming vast chunks of my days. In an incredible show of support Mum, Jon, Sim and Tim have all been working hard decorating the flat and it’s now a veritable vision of new curtains, cream walls and polished floors. The ’70s wallpaper has gone and the smell of new paint lingers. I’ve supplied cups of tea, dinners and a hint of a tint of help but have to confess without them the wallpaper stripper would probably still be in its box. Talking of which I owe a big thanks to Elly who kindly lent me the machine and who braving the rain clouds hosted a delectable charity tea party in her garden yesterday. Thank you from my walls and my tummy!

On Friday some of us from work went for lunch at The Punter where they still do a great £5 lunch on weekdays. The food there is amazing. It totally spoils you for eating elsewhere. It is by far the nicest pub in Cambridge.

Yesterday I lunched with Alex and Mike at the Patisserie Valerie and we were lucky enough to get the comfortable chairs by the windows. I happily munched down the croque monsieur with a pot of tea and would recommend the food there. The place is manic on a Saturday, huge queues and hungry people. Cambridge is in desperate need of more lovely cafes. Please come and open some!

Web work continues apace. The new computer is so lovely that I think you all deserve to see a picture of it. I’m planning to change the Gunns Apartments site and give it a new look and have made a few changes to Sheffield Massage but I’m hoping the new project will be for our writers’ group – so watch this space.

We started the weekend with a trip round Gothenburg with the Critical Mass. There is now a new video of the ride up. Although there was only eleven of us, we remain optimistic that more will join each ride. The next ride is on 26 June 2009, meeting at Gustaf Adolfs Torg at 18.00.

The weather was amazingly hot over the weekend and Monday. On Sunday I wandered round Slottskogen failing to find Karin and her music quiz possy but managing to get a bit of sun. On Monday it was back to work but in between I have mainly found reasons to sit in Star Cups drinking beverages. On Monday I managed to convince K to hang out there with me and yesterday Cheri and I spent a pleasant hour or so there people watching and sipping English Breakfast tea.

Today after a few pleasant hours with Cheri in the centre of Gothenburg, I went for a very pleasant walk with Karin and Ted and paid a visit to the shop near the habour which sells lost property found on the trains. We spent the evening chatting and munching popcorn which was very satisfying.

The bookclub now has a blog all set up and ready to go – so now you can all read the books and comment on them even if you can’t come to one of our meetings.

I was in Cambridge over the weekend and got to see some of the celebrations for the 800 year anniversary of the university. On Saturday night there was a wonderful light show projected on to the Senate House with illustrations by Quentin Blake. On Sunday morning Tim and I wandered to the Fitzwilliam to see the The Chatto Quartet playing Sergey Ivanovich Taneyev’s Piano Quartet in E major in the Gallery there. It was amazing listening to such lovely music surrounded by fabulous art.

So I’m really in the website mood and I’ve finally updated my own website struggling with photoshop in the process and I like to think succeeding to some small degree. I’ve also refreshed my Gothenburg and Norwich pages and the whole bundle of pages and sites is starting to feel a little more ‘mine’.

The weather here in Gothenburg is starting to get cold and sandals and sunglasses have been pushed aside in my attempt to shut windows and snuggle into jumpers. I’ve been steadily working my way through the Linguaphone course material I borrowed from the library and I have to say it’s good solid stuff. No wonder it’s so expensive to buy. Horrary for libraries!!

I spend some time in the Stadsmuseum on Wednesday was I was really impressed at the layout and design of the museum. A lot of the subject matter has explanations in English which is really nice if you’re incapable of speaking Swedish like me. A lot of time and thought has gone into creating the museum and it’s not at all boring or overwhelming like some. There is the most fantastic area for children to play in at the top of the museum which has to be seen to be believed – it includes recreations of rooms to play in. There seems to be a really sensible approach to children here in Sweden – you often find great play areas for them. In one of our local supermarkets there is a wooden boat for them to sit in and watch a tv showing children’s films. Outside most of the flats I’ve seen there are areas of grass and playgrounds for children. It’s as if children playing is a part of life here and not condemned to a designated area that you have to make a special journey to. I would recommend Gothenburg to anyone who has kids and is looking for a place to take them on holiday.

The Stadsmuseum is large and takes some time to go round so a couple of visits there seems to be the way to approach it. The is the fifth and final museum I have got into with my 40 kroner ticket (about £3.40). It’s ridiculously cheap – not just that it gets you into 5 museums with their free toilets and great displays but it lasts for a whole year.

Yesterday Keyvan and I spent the day in the Botanical Gardens eating a picnic and soaking up the sun – it’s the most gorgeous place in Gothenburg and I just can’t get enough of the place. It is as I suspected a lot quieter during the week and the only downfall is it’s lack of really nice toilets and a cute cafe – but then there are plenty of those to be found in other places – the closest possibly being the Natural History Museum.

This morning I have been negotiating the washing machine facilities here at our flats – it’s an incredibly interesting system – each day of the month has 4 time slots and using your special key you can move your designated lock to a free time slot. There is a host of washing machines and drying facilities all for free use of the occupants of this block. I’m dreaming of a day when we have something so sensible in England.

I put some pictures up yesterday from the last week or so but I have to say they are just snap shots because it’s hard to capture the feel of the place with just a camera.
