Richard Smith, action research and the impact of research
Conference at Bell Cambridge today with guest speaker Richard Smith from the University of Warwick. He talked us through some the possibilities of extending our reflective teaching practice into action research. The possibilities of extending research beyond the realm of universities is becoming more tangible in light of REF – the new system for assessing the quality of research in universities which will look in part at the impact research has – 20% of the weighing is in fact given to this – departments that are moving in this direction are already looking outward to topics that impact or opening communication links with other institutions in the hope that the research and practice can meld. An exciting time to be involved in higher education that is for sure.
