Creative Destruction in the Victorian City

The Leicester Uni Victorian Study Centre Lecture laid on its annual lecture this evening at – “Creative Destruction” in the Victorian City’, given by Professor Peter Mandler of Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. Fascinating stuff. I was particularly intrigued by the tales of C19th railway companies buying up large swathes of land in the centres of cities and demolishing what was there. In Glasgow a C15th university was knocked down for a railway that was never built. Crying shame!
